The Foreverglades is a story not just about the Florida Everglades and mysteries they hide, but a story about the grief we feel when life suddenly changes course and we’re left to pick up the pieces.
Leah is a very familiar character for many people. She’s thrown into a new world far from home and, in the process, loses the friends she used to have. This experience isn’t exclusive to people who survive murderous brothers in the Everglades. It’s the same experience we face when we move to a new town, get a new job, or find ourselves exploring the unknown.
This film dives into the history of the Everglades, but also the themes are modern ones. What do we do in the face of adversity and change? How do we connect to new places after losing what we held dearly? How to we find connection to a place that caused us pain?
These answers aren’t easily found in a book, but rather with time. Time is what can present healing. So, with twenty years of hindsight, Leah Jones is ready to reflect.
This story is ours, just as much as it is hers.
